Hobbies do wonders for our psyche. If you work in a job that is disposition and not much creativity is involved, you can become stressed and feel like you are in a rut. It is surprising how great a hobby can make you feel.

In the glass working hobbies there are the following three creative paths: (plus others that are not mentioned).

There are mosaics: which are small pieces of glass cut up to make pictures or designs that you have found somewhere else or have envisioned in your own mind. They can be pictures of people, animals, plants or lovely scenery. You pick the colors and types of glass and the backing for the picture. It can be two or three dimensional. It is framed or pulled together by grout which fills in the spaces.

There is stained glass: which is glass cut to shapes and then surrounded by ordinarily a metal frame. This is ordinarily clear colored glass so that it looks more vibrant when the sunlight shines straight through it.

There is also fused glass: which is glass laid together and then put in a kiln to melt together and form anything pattern you are wanting. It includes working with power tools, such as saws and grinders and lathes and sandblasters. It can be done in conjunction with mosaics to make smoother patterns than could be made with mosaics alone.

With the fused glass, small pieces - like jewelry - are potential because the production can be made very plane and thus can be worn without worry of cuts and nicks.

It may not seem like a hobby where you are smashing or cutting glass and getting small glass cuts, burns, and bruises, would be a relaxing and inspiring hobby, but it positively is something that can let the creative juices flow, start a whole new set of friends, and get you excited about spending as much time as potential with this hobby. In other words, it can positively become a passion.
